The Vereniging Rembrandt was founded in 1883 by a small number of art lovers who wanted to help save important works of art for the country. Today, the Vereniging Rembrandt has over 16.000 members, both domestic and abroad, and has helped acquire well-over two thousand works of art from all over the world for over 120 Dutch museums.

Our support goes beyond funding art acquisitions

While helping museums in the Netherlands acquire works of art is still the Vereniging Rembrandt’s principal function, we have recently also started investing in research, in restorations, and in creating public awareness for the importance of strong public art collections. In order to carry on our mission, we depend heavily on our members, who are the essential lifeblood of the organisation. For more information about what we do and how we do it, see below.
